Bryn Mawr Judo Club (BMJC) Constitution
AT BRYN MAWR COLLEGE
DRAFTED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2009
Article I
Name:
The name of this organization shall be Bryn Mawr Judo Club, here in after referred to as BMJC.
Article II
Purpose:
The purpose of this club is to give Bryn Mawr students the opportunity to study the Japanese Martial Art of Judo, under the tutelage and supervision of the professional Senseis at Main Line Judo. Through Judo, students will learn a competitive sport that is at the same time a great method of self-defense, encouraging self-confidence in participants. Students will have the chance to exercise off-campus and meet students from other local universities, fostering inter-collegiate relations.
Article III
Membership:
Section I: Eligibility
Any Bryn Mawr student is eligible to be a member, with the only exceptions being students with medical conditions that cannot tolerate a full-contact sport that involves falling from up to shoulder height, rolls, grappling, pins, chokes and locks. This is to ensure the full safety of Bryn Mawr's students as Judo is a physically demanding sport.
Section II: Active membership
To be considered a voting, active member of BMJC, students must attend at least one class a week. Exceptions are made during exam periods and/or for personal/medical reasons of absence.
Article IV
Officers:
Section I: Number and Method of Elections
BMJC shall elect a President, Vice President and Treasurer from volunteers that are active members of the club at the end of the Spring Semester for terms the following year. An election meeting will be held before the college examination period, with ballots stating the volunteer's names and desired position. Active members must attend the meeting or authorize a proxy (with a signed note stating the reason of absence and allowing the named person to act as proxy) to be allowed to vote.
Any active member is eligible to hold office, however, to do so they must "shadow" the desired position during the Spring Semester to understand ramifications and duties of the office to be able to properly fill the position during the following year. (ie: Someone who wishes to be Treasurer must attend the Spring SGA meetings with the current Treasurer to be eligible.)

Section III: Term of Officers
Officers shall serve for terms of one year each, from Fall to Spring Semester, and are required to serve a half term the spring semester before their term, if they wish to be eligible the next year, to learn their duties from previous officers and to smooth transitions. Any Officer may be reelected to as many terms as they volunteer for.
Section IV: Impeachment of Officers
Officers may be impeached if they partake in any offensive/harassment behavior towards a member, if they do not fulfill the above mentioned duties to the satisfaction of members or if they abuse the power of the position in which they were placed. Individual cases not listed above may be presented to the two other Officers and judged as grounds for impeachment on a case-by-case basis.
All cases of impeachment must first be presented to the other two Officers, who will decide if there are grounds for impeachment. If the impeacher feels that the two Officers have given them a biased judgment, the case may be brought before all other members of the club. If the two Officers find grounds for impeachment, an emergency meeting will be called in which the charges are read and both the impeached officer and the impeacher get to speak on their behalf.
After the presentation of cases, the members will vote on whether or not to impeach the officer in question. The voting will be supervised by the two remaining Officers. The officer in question will be impeached if a gross majority (at least 75% of members) votes in favor of impeachment. Upon impeachment, an emergency vote will be taken to find a replacement for the position. If it is the President that is impeached, the Vice President will be promoted to President, and the Vice President position will be filled.
Upon impeachment, the Officer is required to turn over all documents relating to the club and their position that will be necessary for their replacement. Any Officer impeached on grounds of harassment or abuse will be further banned from the club.
